Remote Desktop Problems XP Pro

Hi All,

I have a problem using Remote Desktop across a LAN with 2 Windows XP Pro machines. The RDC connectivity used to work fine, but suddenly stopped for some reason. When trying to login remotely, the username and password are accepted and it attempts to load my profile, when the panel suddenly changes to 'Logging Off' and I am dumped back on the local desktop. The problem however is not consistent and I am able to login from time to time. The only thing I can think of that I changed between working fine and not working, is the username of an account on the remote machine, that is enabled for Remote Desktop connectivity. I have since changed this back, but the problem persists.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Do you have similar problems with network connectivity? Try checking network connectivity at the same time you have RDC conneection problems. Then...check your Hosts and LMHosts files in the WINNT/system32/drivers/etc directory.

I used to get similar connections problems and I switched to fixed IP and put entries in the host and lmhost files and the problems went away.

I'n not sure this will help, but something to try....

Thanks for the reply Tony.

Network connectivity is fine between the two machines, both use fixed IP Addresses also. I run other services on the machine I am trying to connect to and these aren't interupted whilst the RDC connection is attempting to establish.

Is there a way of uninstalling and reinstalling RDC to see if that clears anything, or is it an integral part of the OS ?
