Remote Desktop Disconnected

Hi, I have a user I can't connect via RDC.
I get an error: The specified remote computer could not be found. Verify that you ohave typed the correct comptuer name or IP address, and then try connceting again.

User is connected and I can ping him fine. He's also connected to internet and intranet.

He's on WINxp Pro. SP1

This is really a question for the XP forum forum779.

Try connecting by IP address rather than host name

Make sure they aren't running the firewall

Make sure that you have the right to connect to that PC and that incoming RDP is enabled on the XP box.

thanks for the input.
when i tried to get on with IP address last night, i couldn't, but i could this morning. i don't know why.

i still can't ping him with host name. it's fine with IP address tho. from a server, there's no problem either way.
it's been this way for more than 24hours. i understand that it takes time to update the IP address when we are using DHCP. but 24hours seems to be a bit too long... any idea?

Has the host been renamed recently?

The incorrect info could be in your local machine DNS cache, open a command prompt and type ipconfig /flushdns and try to connect again.

no, the host hasn't been renamed. and i tried ipconfig /flushdns, but the same result; can ping with ip add but not with host name.
i'm looking everywhere and going nuts, now...

Ok are you using Active Directory? If so you will also have a DNS server running somewhere have a look on there for the host name and check if the IP is incorrect.
