Remote desktop connection VPN

Remote desktop connection through vpn does not work right for some reason. For some reason when the connection gets started, the login screen will not come up. All that can be seen is the default blue background. I dont see how that can be fixed. I do know though that its 16 bit color -> no sound or printers and 28.8 settings (took out all the checkmarks on remote desktop connection) It still will not come up.
Anyone have any ideas?

It could be the MTU issue. check these two cases,
