I have an user who needs to conncet a server from her desktop. The servser is running Windows 2003 server. When she needed to connect, she selected All Programs -> Accessories -> Communications -> Remote desktop connection. Then she picked a server and tried to conncet.

After she put her login and password, press OK, she got connection error message saying that "The desktop you are trying to open is currently available only to administrators. Contact your administrator to confirm that the correct setting are in place for your clinet cennection."

She also got Logon message saying "To log on to this remote computer, you must have Terminal server User permissions on this computer. By default, member of the Remote Desktop Users gruop have these permissions. If you are not a member of the Remote Desktop Users group or another group that has these permissions, or if the Remote Desktop User gruop does not have these permissions, you must be granted these permissions manually."

I have checked on her computer. From Remote Desktop Connection icon, I select properties, then security, she has the permission. Then I checked her user account on the main domain, don't see any spicific area for Remote Desktop Connection set up. Any idea how to fix this. Thanks a lot.

First off, it sounds like you are running Terminal Server in Remote Administration mode. Only Administrators are able to access the server in this mode. To allow users to connect to the server, you need to purchase and configure terminal server licensing.

For the second issue, she needs to be a memeber of the Remote Desktop Users group. On the terminal server, right click My Computer - Properties - and click the Remote tab. Under the remote desktop section, check the box to enable remote desktop, then click the link to add users to the remote desktop users group. Add the user to this group.

Thank your for your information. I followed your direction and added her to remote desktop group.

We do have enough Terminal Server license on the Termianl server. How to config Terminal server for user access? Thanks.

Yes, we do have Citrix on the Terminal server. Thanks so much for your information. I will check it later.

OK - the link I sent you is for Metaframe 3.0. I think it is the same for 4.0. The location changed with 4.5, so depending on your version the documentation may or may not help.

When using remote desktop with a xp computer when trying to access a 2003 server I get the following message:

To log on to this remote computer, you must have Terminal server User permissions on this computer. By default, member of the Remote Desktop Users gruop have these permissions. If you are not a member of the Remote Desktop Users group or another group that has these permissions, or if the Remote Desktop User gruop does not have these permissions, you must be granted these permissions manually."

I added my name to the remote desktop users group and I allow remote access to the servers. I am NOT running terminal server so what else is blocking me?
