I'm unable to establish a remote desktop connection to a windows 2003 server on the local subnet. I'm using a windows xp pro laptop to estabish the connection. I am able to establish a remote connection to servers on different subnets. I'm also able to establish a connection from all other workstation to the server in question, both from the local subnet and other subnets. So, the problem appears to be with the laptop. I've tried disabling the firewall.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

alwayslearnin,

I agree that it appears to be a client issue, your laptop in this case. From your description the server is enabled for remote access and the laptop connects to other servers.

There are several settings that must be established for this it is probably easier to provide this link vs asking batteries of questions:

Some Antivirus scanners have a firewall component included. Depending on your firewall, disabling it may not be enough, with it leaving its settings alive that may effect the connection, you might have to uninstall it completely.

Can your laptop Ping this server successfully and vice versa?
