Morning all,
I have a big problem and i haven't a clue how to fix it. I don't know a huge amount about server 2003 but this morning i tried to remote login to the server on our network form my xp machine and i get the following error "Your interactive logon privilege has been disabled". As far as i know no settings have been changed. Also when i try to ftp to the server i cant get connected. I have no idea why! Any help would be appriciated and the simpler the better as I have very little experience with this operating system.

Thanks in advance
Erin

Gstar is on the right track. Each time I've seen that error it's been relating to incorrect group assignment. Check and see if your user account is in the "Remote Desktop Users".

If you still recieve that error message then verify that the following setting is correct for the RDU group.

Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/User Rights Assignment/Allow Log on locally (add whatever groups you want to have Remote Access).

Thanks guys, that sorted the remote desktop error message! The only problem is that i still can't ftp. I think that this might be related to problems I am having with IIS. The default web site and ftp site in IIS are not running and when i try to run them i get error messages. One is "port already in use" error when i try to run the default web site and a "error 0x8ffe2740 has occured" when i try to run the default ftp site. As for the default web site i have no idea what port it is refering to and in relation to the ftp site the error message is of no help whatsoever! Any ideas?

EKelly.
IIS uses port 80 for HTTP. If an application other than IIS is running and is using port 80 on the same IP address, you may receive the error message when you try to use IIS Manager to start the Web site.
To resolve -
In IIS Manager, change the port bindings for the Web site to a port other than port 80. - or
Stop the application that is using port 80, and then start the Web site from IIS Manager.

Try also opening DOS windows & typing "netstat -a" to see which ports are running...

Cheers

Get IISDIAG (or DIAGIIS) from microsoft. It might help you in detecting problems in your IIS installation.
