I have Crystal Reports 8.5 installed on my machine. I am trying to connect to a remote MS SQL server though VPN.
In the new connection menu I select: Create New connection -> OLE DB -> MS OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
At the next screen when I try to select the SQL server through the drop down menu, its not there. I have manually typed it in but it gives me an error message that the server can't be found. I have no problem seeing it locally on my computer but can't seem to connect to it using crystal. It seems to me that crystal is looking for a local rather than a remote database.

What am I doing wrong? Do I have to set anything else up?

Try creating an ODBC connection as a SYSTEM DSN from your local Control Panel...then connect to the ODBC DSN from the Crystal Data Source connetion.

You might need to map a network drive on your PC when you make your VPN connection.
