Hi all,

Anyone set up a telnet connection on a CP100 to be remote accessable?

Never done it before, but thinking it is achievable... is the CP100 sitting behind a router plugged into LAN?
 
Just use the modem access to do any programing or record greetings, port 23 not availible on call Pilot

PC Anywhere is what I set up to remote download voice anouncements onto the CP. I was just wondering if there was another way.

Yes, port 21 is data port only no web access is possible.
however I always set modem access to on and if you have an auto attendant answer you can access and program via your web browser at home or office.

Dumb question time.. but I'm trying to get my head around the 'port' and modem issues. From what I can see and read the 9pin serial port is all I've got. And all I can do with the serial port is direct connect to my lap top, or create a dial up connection. I can't seem to find anything about this in the manual?

There is a modem built in the CP. It must be setup prior to use. The following is from our quick reference guide:

Activate CallPilot modem
1 – Feature 983
2 – Log: 1020000 (3-digit DNs) or 120000 (2-digit DNs)
3 – Dial 4
4 – Voice Mail:Y Press NEXT
5 – Dir avail:Y Press NEXT
6 – Match: Lastname Press NEXT
7 – Modem access:N Press CHNG
8 – Pswd: Enter a password between 4-8 digits long
9 – Again: Reenter password
10 – Password OK


I don't know what parameters are accessible via the modem. Hopefully Bgun can help you with that.

Its the browser based stuff. The manual goes over it all. I have never messed with it, but it looks like you jump through some hoops to get the connection up, and then it uses 3 of your voice channels to communicate with your local modem. From reading it sounds like you use a Nortel utility on the CD, after you have set up a dial up networking connection. Once both of those are in place, you have a kind of local network between your computers modem and the CP, which allows you to type in the local IP of the CP, just as you could if you were on site.

Ack on the descriptions you have given, and the NAM like dial-up 'modem connection' you make with the utility on the CD and your laptop. No problem there.. what I still don't seem to get is:

how is this transported remotely; and
what kind of screen comes up?

The 'modem' seems only accesable through the nine pin serial connector. Does this mean you need to place a modem on the connector?

no 9 pin.
Its transported via your modem and the CP's internal modem. Once the CP answers (you dial the business number, CP has to answer,) you enter sysadmin mbx (1X2) plus the modem password. Then the Utility on the CD allows you to communicate with the CP- then you open internet explorer, just like you would if you were onsite, enter the local IP, and you are connected.

Again- this is from what I have read- I need to test it all someday to verify.
 
bkrike is correct, once this is setup on your pc you can call the call pilot attendant or operator and transfer to mailbox 12 or 102 enter password you gave for modem access and open explorer. You then have full web access to program or record greetings just as if you were on site.

OK. I Give the HECK UP!!
It's 1230 AM West Coast time.. and that means you eastners are seriously into the sugar plum fairey can-can just about now.. but here's the scoop.

Often as anything the CP seems to hang up the connection just at password verification time;

When connected, Telnet is possible (no passwords) using the CP's original IP. The offset IP stuff doesn't seem to do anything; and

Explorer won't show the admin page even when my PC is connected to the CP. Arrgghh!!

Any suggestions here?

If you dial in and hear the response 5...4...3...2..1
that is when you connect. Make sure you have installed your CP ulitilty for SECURE ACCESS. Also your SM Mailbox must be Initialized.

Yes to all. As stated, sometimes the connect will go through, and sometimes it won't.. but when the connect does go through, Explorer will not bring up the GUI. That is the problem at this time.

IP is set to one digit different than the CP in dialer set up. Does Explorer need to be set to work off line?

Yes. I've tried both the assigned CP100 IP address and the offset IP address that the book says to use. Oh. And I DID disconnect my LAN from the CP before trying. Even tried too. No go.

I think I'm missing an IP set up parameter somewhere. Operating system of the test bed is WIN 98 basic. But I don't know just exactly where to look yet.

PhM, it does not matter if you disconnect the lan from the CP, as you have modem access to the CP. However, it is begining to look as though you have a pc problem. This works well with 98,ME,2000 and XP. once you are dialed in you could open a dos window and should be able to ping the CP or tracert to it if you can't then run a winipcfg what is you ppp ip address? is your computer setup for static address or obtain an address. Do you have any antivirus programs running that would block port activity to the CP. Can you connect directly to the CP on site with no problem?

Good questions. I can't answer just yet. The CP I'm testing against is our company CP.. so I had to disconnect the LAN otherwise explorer just went that route. I'm able to dial out our line one and back into line two to get the modem connection. As stated you are likely 99% correct problem lies in my PC. I'll post back when I've had a chance to test again.
