Hello,

What rights are require on the sms server and the workstation for remote control to function correctly, we are currently using Windows 2000 Adv. Server, SMS 2.0 SP5. We have setup the user with all the proper permissions within sms to view collections and use remote tools, but it seems the only way to get the user to be able to connect to the mmc console is to give them administrator rights to the server. Also to remote to a workstation it seems they need local admin.

Does anyone now how we can give them bare minimum permissions, so all they can do is remote and do normal user functions?

Thanks,

Dom

You need to also add that user to the SMS admins local group on your SMS server. This will allow them to connect to the database through the mmc. As far as remote control permissions, if you go in your console and drill down to Site Database -> Site Hierarchy -> %site% -> Site Settings -> Client Agents -> Remote Tools, you have a security tab that specifies all users or user groups who can remote control machines. Specify your users or groups accordingly.
