I would like to trigger from a Windows 2003 backup server a command in a remote Windows 2003 Enterprise Server to shut down its DB2 database. Once the DB2 is shut down, the entire remote server will be backuped. Similar, when the backup is completed, I would like to trigger from the backup server a command in the remote W2K3 Enterprise Server to start-up the DB2 database.

I heard that RCMD command is useful but not secure. Does anyone knows of any SSH-2 freeware that I can use ?

You can use sc which is probably only slightly more secure (It will use what ever domain authentication method your domain normally uses).
