Looking for some ideas.

I need to connect to an OV250 remotely. I believe its using a v.32/v.34 modem. I dial in with a USRv.90 which works fine on other systems using hayes/boca/USR modems. However connecting to this V.32/34 (I'm assuming this is the case) I'm getting connection but the output is garbled. I tried all three terminal types using ProComm and my settings are 8N1.

My questions are, when connecting to a v.32/34 do I need to dial out on the same? Should I install a v.32 on my PC in order to connect remotely to the one that is installed on the OV250?

Is there any type of string that I need to program into the my v.32/34 in order to sync with the remote location?

Does ProComm require some script to communicate properly with the v.32/34 which is using OCL?

Does my standard modem require a specific string to communicate with the remote v.32?

Is there a specific terminal type not supported by Aria which the v.32 requires?

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated as I'm at wits end.

is this a new modem ? on the Octel If it is you need to set the modem up before it will work. Let me know what type of modem it is and i can email you the setup spec's for it on the Octel side

The modem connected to the OV250 is a Motorola v3400 or v3600.

Other people are able to dial into this system. I however am not able to using a motorola v3600. I think I have narowed it down to either Procom requiring a specific script, or the modem requires an init string. I dont have either or. If you have some type of string or documentation for setting up the modem I'd appreciate the info.

Thanks for the reply.

i have some pdf files that show the string needed but i'm not sure i can upload them to this forum

Even the file names would be helpful. I can have people track them down for me. Usually all pdf's have a part number assigned to them. 181-xxxx-xxx. I can shoot you my email address as well, but I'm not sure if moderators will allow it.

i would appreciate the pdf files if you get a chance. we have several different 250's set up and dialing from teh same pc, i can only get to some of them, meanwhile, my coworker can hit them all. the ones that i cant get to have the internal modem, while the others have external. sounds like the modem just hangs and never quits training. anyway, my email address is

mailto: jeff.deyo@centurytel.com

many thanks! jeff

I've seen this problem before with USR. Try forcing the carrier baudrate to 9600. Init the USR with at&n6&u6. This forces the max/min baud rate to 9600. Dial into the system using atdt command, not through a directory entry. You can see the message "Connect 9600". This has nothing to do with the DTE connection (the serial port speed between modem and COMx of your PC). If you make the carrier 9600 and the terminal 9600, you should get a connection without garbled data.
