Remote booting with diskless workstations

The process of creating boot image file for remote workstation is clear. But could you please tell me what to do if there is no enough free space on diskette (1.44 Mb) to store netware dos client files. For example OS files take 600 Kb and netware (5.0) dos client files take 1100 Kb of disk space (minimum). So diskette can not hold all required client files. How do I generate remote boot image file in this situation? Please help.

format with copy only system files on the diskette. That should free up some space.

Hi

What client are you using? For remote booting try using dos VLMs for the diskettes. Or you could use boot roms and then you don't need anything. Your file then can be any size.

If you use vlms, use only the vlms needed and do not include the rest. It should be no problem getting all that you need on one floppy disk then.

Is there a utility in Novell 5.0 to create boot image files?
I coudn't find any. I'm using older boot image files, created under 3.12 and editing them with MAPGEN.COM that came with SMC Ethernet Card driver disk. But it doesn't work under Windows 95/98. And the imige file can't be greater than the original boot imige file.

I use netware 5.0 original DOS/WIN 32 client which contains the following files:
nios.exe
nbic32.nlm
lslc32.nlm
cmsm.nlm
ethertsm.nlm
pnpsrv.lan
trannta.nlm
ipx.nlm
spx_skts.nlm
client32.nlm
============
1,113,896 bytes
and client does not work without any of these.

I tried using netware client for v3.12 but it doesn't perform logon scripts specified for user when logging on netware 5.0 server.

I generated bootimage files using dosgen.exe utility which comes with netware 5.0 and is located in sys:/system
and it works under Windows 98. But it takes booting stuff from floppy so total size of files can't exceed 1.44 Mb.

Mike, I'm having the same problem. With Netgear310's it worked but with Netgear 311, no go. Our old diskette is a win98 boot diskette with run.bat
