Hello...

My Backup exec 8.5 keeps compaining in the log that the remote agent is not installed. Yet when I go to those servers, the remote agent service is there and running.

What gives?? Is it there or not?

Any ideas?

Have you rebooted the severs that the agent was installed onto ?

Yes... server was rebooted several times!

Make sure that the services for Backup Exec is enabled with the administrator account if you installed the application under that account, just go into the services and access the Backup Exec Agent and check on the LOGON tab and by default it is set to the local account, just change the account accordingly to the correct account and that should resolve your problem.

I changed the Remote Agent service to run using the Backup Exec service account. No change... I still get the message in the logs that the remote agent is not installed. I get this on both my 2000 and NT4 machines.

I really don't understand why.

When you installed the remote agents on the servers, did you install them locally or through the network? It should of asked for remote agent Licenses. Did it? This might fix your problem. I had a similar problem and reinstalling the agents with the licenses worked for me. Give it a try. Remote Agent licenses were grandfathered in before version 8.0 but now you need to have seperate licenses for the server and agents. Good Luck!

What I could recomend is that you go directly to the servers with the agents installed and manually uninstall them, and have the agent installed through the CD or the upgrade package that you originally used. You'll find it under WINNT\INSTALL\ENG\I386\NTAA\setupaa.cmd.

Make sure that the agent has been successfully removed and rebooted just to make sure that the registry and the memory is cleared. Once the agent has been successfully installed you may need to reboot the server again. Once this has been completed, make sure that the services on the Logon tab has also been changed accordingly, then stop and restert the services to apply the changes to the services.

After these setps have been successfully performed test the backup server with a system state backup of the remote server. This will confirm several tests at once if the system actually backs up the system then it will mean that the services has access to the file systems and also means that the agent is also working correctly.

Good Luck.
