Remote agent access to licensed 2nd server

Just had a tape drive go bad on one of our servers, which has the full BE 9.0 installed and configured.

Until we get a replacement installed, I wanted to have Server2 (with another licensed, legal, active copy of BE running its own tape drive) do a backup of Server1 (with the bad drive) across the network.

With my full licenses, I should be able to run Remote Agent on Server1 and have Server2 back it up, no? Or would I need to pay for a remote agent for server1 even though it has a full copy of BE on it.

Both servers have the Backup Exec Remote Agent service installed and running, and they're the same version. But when I try to connect to Server1 from Server2 I get a message that Server1 already has BE installed, and to choose another server. Trying to add Server1 to the selection criteria results in an error saying to install Remote Agent, check for version conflicts, etc.

I know we need to install 9.1 but it's low on the list of fires to put out right now.

Thanks for any ideas.

Hi,

I do not beileve you can do what your looking to do. Since the BE Agent is reporting/registered with the full install on FS1 it cannot be used by FS2. You will need to install an Agent from FS2 to FS1, but the catch is that you cannot have BE installed on FS1.

I hope that answers your question.

Lou
