I have an option 11c conected to a pc that has procom onit to administer the switch. The conection goes through a nul modem and works fine

I would like to remove the nul modem and attach a modem and dial in via my laptop so I can administer the swich from anywhere

When the laptop conects all i get is ?????????? on the screen and more if I press return.

i am using hyperteminal to dial in with.

Have I conected the modem to the right place ?
what hyperteminal settings do I use

Thanks
Grant

are you using the same baud rate and parity settings? I would use tty 0 and you may have to have a nul modem in the conection between the modem and tty cable depending on if its set for dte or dce. Also I would get a copy of procomm by Symantec for a terminal emulation program that way you could keep connection records, do scripting ect..

either use Procomm or PC Anywhere, Hyperterminal doesn't scroll correctly especially with Meridian Mail

thanks everybody found it was hyperterminal at fault now using a different emulator

If this remote office is part of your company WAN, you may want to consider obtainng a small term server, connect your Opt 11c to it and telnet to it instead. Faster, cleaner and you dont have to pay monthly for a POTS line. Depending on what kind of router you are using it may be possible to use an AUX or serial port that is already there. Something to ponder.
