I've got a belkin54g ADSL modem/router. Like many other routers out there it has a remote administration utility whereby you are supposed to be able to change settings through the internet from anywhere in the world.

That sounds great! but I've looked through the manual and searched the internet and I can't find anywhere that explains how you are supposed to do this.

Does anyone out there know how this is done, or no of a web site that has a tutorial.

Thanx

I have one of these but have not set it for remote administration. I have done remote administration on other makes of modem/routers and the process is about the same. It is really only useful if your router has a static WAN address and you have a real reason to administer your router over the internet, otherwise you are just creating a security hole. Remember to have a complex password set on the modem/router before turning this on.

Next, turn the feature on. On the Belkin go into "system settings" and tick the box for remote administration.

Next find the WAN IP address of the router. If static your ISP would have told you this, otherwise you will have to look on the information screen of your Belkin. (remember dynamic WAN ips change everytime you power off your Belkin).

Then from any web browser on the internet you should be able to go to the Belkin's screen by typing wan ip of the belkin device>.e.g.
