I am trying to sort out remote administration of IIS 4. I have sorted out being able to do it using the HTML admin option, but I have now installed the MMC and IIS snapin on my PC. I can connect to the server, but when I try and go any further down the tree than the "Default Web Site" or "Administration Web Site", I get the following message:

"Unable to Enumerate Files and Directories because the following error occurred:

Access denied."

The setup is as follows:
The Server I am trying to administrate is running NT Server 4 with SP 4.
The PC I am using is NT Workstation 4 with SP 4.
The PC I am using is in a different NT domain to the one I am trying to administrate.

I have:
Added myself to the Administration group on the server.
Made sure I have full access rights on all files in the INetPub folder.
Added myself to the Web site operators list on all websites.
Added my IP to the access granted list on the admin website.

What am I doing wrong! Why does the MMC snapin not work when the HTML administration method does?

Cheers,
Jon
Jonathan
j.w.george@virginnet.co.uk

Working with: Visual Basic 6, Access 97, Visual Interdev 6, VBScript, Active Server Pages, SQL Server 6.5, Oracle 7

Yeah, I had the same headache trying to get this to work.

What you do is create a local account on the IIS server you want to remotely admin, with the same name and password as the account that you log in with on the remote machine. Give the local account on the other machine and presto - it should allow you to administrate the snap-in.

However, you are better off using remote control tools like timbuktu or pc anywhere. There is a shareware tool called vnc - I think - which has all the functionality you need.

Hope this is of help
