There are a couple ways to do this...
Method 1
Port Forwarding to Allow Remote Management
In order to enable access to the Web-based Configuration Utility of your UCX system from the public network, you should configure your router to forward the following ports to the IP address of your UCX Server (by default 192.168.1.200):
Rule Name
Port Number
Port Type
Secure Web Server (HTTPS) 443 TCP
With this rule enabled, you can access the UCx Web-based Configuration Utility using the address IP address of your router> (please note that you have to use https - not just http).
Method 2
The UCX remote access feature allows support of UCX systems remotely, without requiring opening ports on the customer premises firewall. Access is provided by a centralized OpenVPN server, secured by client certificates on the UCX system as well as the connecting PC.
To use the remote access package, you need to have OpenVPN installed on your PC or Mac computer. Additionally, you need to register the UCX system for remote access.
Please contact E-MetroTel support (support@emetrotel.com) to request a user or partner account to access the feature.

To allow the VPN connection to be established, the UCX system must be able to communicate with our server (remote.emetrotel.org = 68.238.148.139) using the TCP port 1194.

Stocking Distributor for E-Metrotel

This is my first install and I have purchased the system from an authorized emetrotel distributer. I am also in the process of doing the courses to get my certification as well. I contacted my local emetrotel rep and apparently the system that I sold is registered to the distributer and I do not have access to the remote method #2. My client does not like to open ports on their firewall and access to other systems has been a pain in the butt in the past by using method #1. I would like to setup up two, what are my options? Is this the normal distributer model for emetrotel? This doesn't seem like a distributorship more like a monopoly.
One Method 1, the IT guy can open ANY port not in use and then POINT it to internal Port 443 on the UCx. For example, if they don't want to open Port 443, then open Port 9898 or basically any unused port that hackers don't normally try to access. I use Port 9898 and THEN in the IT Router, point Port 9898 to Port 443 of the UCx IP address. To access after this has been done, you would open Chrome browser and type the address like this; " IP address>:9898 ". This tells the Router, in easy English, "When you see a request to go to Port 9898, send the request to the Port 443 of the UCx."- Doing it this way keeps the customer network from having hits on Port 443 and STILL gives external access to the UCx for Remote Support.
Your authorized E-Metrotel Reseller should be able to set you up as a "User" under their Remote Support settings that will allow you to have access to the systems that you have bought and registered to your account.
I know this works because we have resellers wanting to do the same through us. We are a Stocking Distributor, which is a little different than Reseller, but the process should be the same.
