Hi,

We are trying to give a site remote access to our HP-UX 11 server. I found a standard Modular 56k external modem and hope to use this to allow access across an analogue line. The server has been removed from the company LAN.

The tech support for the modem say that although they don't supply the modem driver for use on a HP machine, it should work using the GSP drivers already there. Has anyone tried this before and, if so, how would I go about sorting this out?

Thanks,
Sean

Your modem setup for the HP-UX box is the same as a terminal, except for the cable. You will need a modem cable. You will have a serial connection from the modem to the server, serial port board (mux), or terminal server (heaven forbid you attach to a DTC/RDTC). Then you would need to configure that device in SAM, basically setting the baud rate and getty (login) for the port. It might take some tweeking to get the stty settings correct, as well as you modem's settings. I would check HP's web page for a white paper on a modem setup. for further information.
