dear gents,

we maintain an option 81c which is 400km away from main office. We use to remote access the switch on a TELCO PSTN line via dial up modem with no issues.
The PSTN line was disconnected recently. Is there a possibility we can still access the switch remotely using the serial to ethernet converter?
Like can I install the serial to ethernet converter on the remote Site and run it to the IP ethernet port. Then received it to the office with
another converter and connect it to a terminal PC to access the switch normally for maintenance purposes.
Is this possible? Advance thanks to any inputs.
Thank you.

I would get a user at the remote site to hook up a computer with a serial port or USB adapter etc onto the Meridian system.

Then give that computer Internet access and install either a VPN or some sort of secure remote access.

Make sure that you have a good comms tool such as HyperTerminal, Procomm Plus, PuTTY etc.

Just unplug the RS232 lead from the modem and put onto the connector from the computer.

Thanks much Firebird on your recommendation.
However, internet access is not available on the remote unman site.
It would be a lots of paper work and approval to request internet facility on that site.
That's the idea we think of a serial to ethernet port because IP ethernet is available there to the main office.
Thank you

I recently purchased "quite cheaply" two of those 9 way RS232 serial port to RJ45 Ethernet port adapters.

However, the Ethernet cable was only used to extend the length of the serial port cable as it had no IP traffic in it.
