I am trying to renumber the remote access number from 889 to a 4 digit number in my DID range. When I back out the old number and enter the new number in I get an error sound and then it goes back to the defaul number 889. The new number that I am trying to use is not already in use. but I cann't figure out why it won't take the new number. I'm sure that it is something simple that I am forgeting about. Does anyone have any ideas?

So four-digit dialing is provisioned in your dial plan? In other words you have four-digit extensions currently being used?

Try doing a print > dialplan. See if the number you are trying to use is already in use by a calling group or phantom extension (adjunct), etc.

I checked that already. And I could not find the number anywhere.

One guess. Ensure there's no overlap in the 3-digit or 4-digit number. For example say I have a 515 extension and I want to assign another position an extension of 5151. This won't work in the dial plan since the switch would intercept the 515 part before I could dial the last 1.

What is the 4-digit extension you want to assign? And what happens when you dial it right now from a phone? Do you get a reorder tone, a busy signal, etc.?

Found the problem. I am too embarrassed to say what the problem was, but here's a clue: You (meaning I)need to READ the words that are on the screen!!
Thanks everyone for trying to help me with my stupidity. It was a valiant effort.
