I work at a TV station with radar software running on an O2 box. I want to be able to access the radar program from a remote system in the studio, having it display on the remote system. I have read about setting up networking, hosts, etc...but I'm not sure how to tell a program to display on a remote system, or how to access and run the program from a remote system.

Your remote system is a PC (windows) or a Unix box ?

Actually, I haven't set it up yet, but it will probably be a unix box. I guess it is possible to use a windows machine, too? I have so much to learn...

With a Unix box is easy:
ex. O2 is the hostname of your O2 box , Saturn is the hostname of the box that you use.
Open a windows terminal, at the prompt issue the command
Saturn# xhost +
Saturn# rlogin O2
password: ####
O2# ksh
O2# export DISPLAY=Saturn:0
Now try to launch your application.

If you use a win box you have to install software like VNC to share the unix display...

Sorry for my english...i'm Italian...

Okay...our main weather graphics computers (three O2s) are already networked, so I tried diplaying from one (SHOWFX) to another (DIRECTOR). It works!

YOU DA MAN!

Thanks a bunch.

Is it possible to display the software on the host AND a remote location--or at least to switch between one and the other without closing the program?
