I have an IPO V2-R8 in one city, I'm trying to run a 9620 set in another town. Phone will work on raw internet, but as soon as it is connected to a router, i.e. Cisco DPC-3825, it will not continue to register. It will allow an extension and password to be entered but sticks on discovering the call server address. Ports are forwarded in the router, firewall is disabled, programmed address for phone manually.

Has anyone else had this problem?bcs

Have you set it as a remote extn in system programming? And followed the instructions for remote H323 phones? Even then it just plain does not work with certain routers :)

The system is good as it will work on raw internet. For this customer it doesn't apply as his system is set up and they don't want to change it. Your saying that some routers just don't allow H323 to work? bcs

You can't just forward ports and expect it to work, there are other settings to be applied to overcome the problems caused by NAT :)

Can you point me to the right information to research this a bit further? bcs

Hi canucktec,

I am experiencing an identical issue to yours:

Avaya 9620 VPN'd to our call server from a remote user site. The user also has the ISP supplied Cisco DPC-3825 router/modem combo. The ISP is Rogers out in Ontario, however. We have several more 9620's configured identically at other remote user sites, that function fine -- so we are beginning to suspect it is an issue with this DPC-3825...

The phone boots up, establishes the VPN tunnel, allows the extension/passcode to be entered, then hangs on "Discover [our call server]".

Any luck resolving this on your end?

Thanks,

Adam
