I have a 406v2 in our customer's main site. They are hooking up 6 IP phones at a remote site. Is there a way to have the remote site(IP Phones)make 911 calls if needed? The remote site is in a different city and would have a different 911 service address.

Thanks

You could always find out what the "non 911" number is for that area. Typically each diapatch center has a 7/10 digit number which can be dialed instead of 911, however is treated the same. Then under the short code, create the shortcode so if they dial "911" it would acutally dial the 911 center's number for their local area. I strong suggest testing this, however it should work.

That wouldn't solve the basic problem of transmitting the correct address information, although is still a great idea to make sure you're talking to the correct call centre.

What you'll want to do is have an analog trunk hooked to the 406 just for this purpose. Tell your local carrier to program the address associated with this line to be the remote site address. Then setup user shortcodes for the remote IP phones to use that trunk if they need to dial 911 - and keep that trunk reserved for this purpose!

also follow bwilch's advice about getting the conversion number for the proper local 911 centre. You don't want to be talking to a 911 dispatcher in LA if your coworker in Boston is having a heart attack.
