Remedy Alert, not alerting problem

I'm running remedy client and remedy alert 6.03 on my computer. Iv'e set alerts to 'full' in client and remedy client keeps popping up its annoying alerts like it should do when its open. The problem is 'Remedy Alert' does not do any of the things its suppose to. If I open 'Remedy Alert' and click refresh it shows the number of alerts properly and I can click on open alert list and it will go to client.

However, ticking any of the checkboxes under tools > options > alert boxes for a sound, flashing icon, beep or play sound or open display alert box they not happen when a new alert comes in. Iv'e tried a single check box, or combinations but none seem do anything.

Can anyone advise me. It seems to be logging in fine and displaying the correct number of alerts when I open it, but without giving notification its kind of a pointless program.

We have just started using Remedy in our company and I find having the client open to be just annoying as I'd rather just have a sound or flashing icon to let me know that a new alert has arrived rather than big ugly boxes in my screen every few minutes

PS - One thing Iv'e noticed is that new alerts are not appearing until I press the refresh button (ie its not auto-refreshing).
