Relocating user share

I've read some docs on moving shares, including the default user share, but I haven't seen anything that details how/if one can relocate the default user share to a NAS. I've seen some manual workarounds, but no way to move it such that the new user wizard will setup the new share automatically on the NAS. Is this possible?

I'd be VERY surprised if this was possible. There are some things going on behind the scenes that will only work if it is local storage.

If you want to use a NAS to store user data, why do you even have a server? Why not use the Microsoft BPOS cloud for all mail and Sharepoint, and use the NAS for storage?

Plus, what's your backup solution for user data on the NAS? Why not keep the data on the server and script an occasional backup to the NAS?

My plan (not entirely ripe yet) is to use the SBS server itself just for email and fax services. I'll have a second 2008 server for database, a third utility server (backup, AV, misc homeless small apps), and a NAS for all user data and D2D backup using Backup Exec (this is consolidating down from 14 servers).

Personally, i'd keep the user shares on the SBS. I'm pretty sure that doing otherwise will come back and bite you. I can't think of a good reason for not having it on the SBS.

My primary reason is to keep all user data (shared and private) in one place – on the NAS. I don't want some data on one server and some on the NAS. That's how it is now, and it's a mess. It seems a much simpler design to have all user data on a NAS, Email on one server and Database on another.
