I'm not familiar with access, but it is necessary that I use it for a new project. I received an access file from my supervisor. I can open the file, but I cannot run queries. When I do it tells me that I don't have permission to access the files on the network (which is true). So, my supervisor said to set up a local folder, and change the link file reference to your local copy of the file.
I can't figure out how to do that.. I'm using access '97
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I assume that you can open it to the Database Window. Just choose Tools|Database Utilities|Linked Table manager from the menu. (For Access 97, it's Tools|Add-Ins|Linked Table Manager.) In the dialog that appears, click Select All, and check the check box at the bottom that says "Always prompt for new location". Then click OK. Another dialog box will ask you to navigate to the local file on your system. Choose the file and click OK. Barring errors, you should get a message box that says the tables have been successfully relinked. Rick Sprague
