releasing subtasks

hello. i'm fairly new to ms project. i have some tasks that are a subtask to another task and want to delete the main task... when i try to delet it, project tells me that i'm going to delete all associated subtasks.. so i tried to make the subtasks not subtasks. ms project won't allow me to do this.

any help would be appreciated.

What do you mean "it won't allow you"?

Also, please advise which version you are using. If it's 2000/2002/2003 then indicate if it's Pro or Standard.
