Interesting, in release 3 (just out) for the 200ICP they now have a GUI programming interface with onscreen help.
Works good too.
Also new is embedded PRI with the IMAT and CPN stuff all embedded in the programming interface (Wheeeeee!!!!!!)
Also new Application Processor card (a built-in PC) that (among other things) handles the Teleworker application without need of a separate server.
Also dual VLAN support and some other stuff for the CX, even trunking over the internet now supported.
See? If we just wait long enough we won't need any of those stinking servers.

Freshly certified, level 1 & 2.. ;-)

Hey, did you have to update your java to get the gui to work properly? I have 1.42.06 on my pc because of the 3300 and 6510 and noticed that I could jump around the forms properly. Also like the online docs, even though they haven't updated them properly. No reference to the new gui!

If the 200ICP GUI completely loads and you can navigate OK then whatever version of Java you're running is sufficient.
I don't think the help is finished, it's nice but almost looks like they maybe just imported the docs, helpful but a big haypile to wade through looking for your needle.

In my case the 200 GUI wouldn't work with whatever vers I had and required me to update to 1.5 however after updating then OpsMan complains I'm running the wrong Java (but OPSMan still works so I'm not going to complain too loudly)

The 3300 access works fine with Java 1.5

Wife bowls tonight so I may stick around and take a shot at putting 6.1 on the 3300 demo just to see what happens and to see how things work with the AMC

are u kidding me!?
sx200icp finally has a gui?! is the ver 3.0 on the mitel ftp the final version or do i have to get it from AMC?

It is available now for d/l directly from Mitel's web site under Technical, software downloads.

If you're so inclined, the Rls 3 certification update training is almost 70 pages just for Basic (Level 1).
The Advanced (Level 2) course seems like was another 40 or so pages.
Between both tests I recall something like 35 or so total questions (two separate quizes).

The gui is an exact graphical (mouseable) representation of the regular programming interface so there is not much learning curve.
I thought they did a nice job with it.
Onscreen help too.
It is about 95% mouseable/clickable, still a few things you'll need your keyboard and fingers for ;-)
You can mouse around right on top of the standard-looking menu of options or you can use a menu-tree drill-down interface that's over on the left side of your screen.
The drill-down tree I noticed doesn't (yet) show ALL of the sub-menu levels so some of those you'll need to put your mouse on the menu screen and click there.

With the addition of the web-based gui interface you now have three methods to get to and program your 200ICP (maintenance access connector on the front of the box + secure telnet + web gui).
For the web gui access you fire up your browser and surf to address of the machine)
Note, it is https (secure), not http
I really didn't pay attention to what browsers are supported; I use IE
You'll need Sun Java 1.5 (link provided by Mitel) - this ver of java is compatible with the 3300 and will also work with opsman too, altho opsman (6.11) complains, just ignore it, all opsman stuff seems to work ok

When initially starting up the gui there is kind of a pregnant pause so be patient, takes maybe 15 secs or so during which it looks like nothing is happening.

One other thing.

The rls 3 upgrade cannot be performed remotely.
You'll need to burn it onto a 256 meg CF flash chip, choose "local upgrade" then stick the newly burned chip in & boot the box
Make sure you have a current backup of your database; shouldn't lose it, but we all know stuff happens

is it the same release off the mitel ftp? i don't have access to mitel online or amc

I would think so, but I have no firsthand knowledge of what is or isn't on the ftp site.

As far as not having AMC access, if I were a betting man I'd offer good odds at some point down the road you're going to be stuck without it.
Already the 200ICP has a new "AMC controlled" application in rls 3, 6042 Managed VPN (trunking via the Internet).
Admittedly this feature appeals to only a small market interest right now, but I think its foolish to believe Mitel won't eventually take the entire product option licensing process to AMC (as they just did with the 3300 eff. in rls 6.1).
The clock is ticking.. [hourglass]

MitelInMyBlood.

You are exactly right. Without Internet access/MAS6000 there will be no licensing. We are a few years off of that, but the day will come. The others (Nortel/Avaya) will follow. If you have access to the 3300, you will notice they are going through a Password change (they are preparing for this).

TheMitelGuy, I'd be surprised if it's any more than a year or two out if even that long.
Giving us the GUI interface for the 200ICP in 3.0.2.5 was 'step one' in the process.
Only a matter of time now before option licenses are automated through the GUI via the AMC.
Like the man said when he cut off the monkey's tail' "won't be long now"

There is some "resistance" from IT managers not to allow this, so it maybe further out then we think.

Mitelinmyblood, have you had problems logging into the gui with anything other than installer after changing the default passwords? Changed all my from the default on a new install and now can only access the gui as installer. comp ort and secure telnet is working fine. Will be calling Mitel on Monday but was wondering if you had noticed the problem.

So I called tech support today and opened a ticket in the passcodes not working on the web gui. Guess what I got for an answer. The tech told me he had submitted a DECR for it last week. "A DCR?", I asked. "You mean DPAR."
"Nope" he said. It was design intent that if the passcodes are changed only the installer will work on the gui. That kind of blows my mind, so I will bring this to our TAM, but if anyone else has experienced it and sees it as a problem please call and open a ticket.

It is a big deal for me as in our company technician level is maint1 while installer is used by the RMATS dept for security in case a tech leaves. Also I was so excited that the customer would have an easy interface to program speed dials and the voicemail. Now that dream is gone due to "design intent".

Arrgh.

How weird.
By this do you mean that we have no control over the UserID and password on the web gui?
If true my IT Security group will have kittens.

I've not played with 3 yet except on the lab demo, so hadn't encountered this (yet).

ok i don't understand why u wouldn't need a server for teleworker? how does it run then? also does anyone know if the sx200icp can be used as a gateway or only a DHCP server cause i've had a difficult time trying to keep the DHCP on the icp and making it compatible with the gateway but i'm finally getting good at it now. ;) I dont' see why the CX would have a WAN port but not the MX.

You do need a server for the Telework app.

However, the "Server" eff. w/rls 3 is built-in (ok, it's an option board that you buy).
It's called an Application Processor Card which basically is a 400 Mhz PC and a separate (required) hard drive (or addt'l HD if you already have a HD in the 200ICP for the OS and voice mail stuff).
It all goes inside the 200ICP CX ONLY (not available for the MX) and several of the 6000MAS application blades can be run from it, including Teleworker, Unified Messaging, 6042 Managed VPN & 6040 Office Server suite.

Of course all this is covered only in the advanced (level 2) training module.

i can't wait to upgrade to use the gui. do you think i can do it myself considering i upgraded from 1.0 to 2.2 by myself while my vendor sat there watching me and scratching his head? i have the 256 flash and read/writer. so all i do is dl the software run the program, do a full sys backup. and then is it better to load the restore on the flash or just wait and do it through ftp once ur done? this is all you have to do right? just like 2.2? i have the install release notes anyway i think.

You might want to have your vendor nearby or at least on the phone.
If you haven't been trained I would not suggest doing this without supervision.

Run the install utility to install it on the flash card.
Choose LOCAL UPGRADE
You will be asked where to install it.
Choose the drive associated with the flash card.
You will be asked to format the card, do so, FAT32 or FAT
Then proceed with the software installer utility - it will tell you when its done

Make sure you have a good (current) backup.

Plug the flash card into the front of the box.
The light alongside the flash socket should turn orange.

Reboot the controller
It should come back up in a few minutes with your current database.

Do not remove the flash card until the light alongside the socket turns green.

wait so where does the restore take place then? is that was the local upgrade does? do i pick the backup file to install on the flash or does it not erase it all like 2.2?

Matthew McGowan

You do not need to restore unless you have a problem. Backups before doing any upgrade is just a VERY good practice. The one time you don't is when you need it, haha. Yes, the upgrade is the same as when you upgraded to 2.2, the upgrade will restore the database all on its own (or it doesn't erase the DB at all).

What you can not do is upgrade using the FTP method when upgrading to Rel 3. You MUST use the local method with the compact flash card.

Good Luck
