3.0 DT is GA. What does this mean:

Just two items from the release notes:

1. all 3.0 applications (except ccc5) are NOT supported;
2. the 'W' shortcode character is (still) not working (as it's also not working in 2.1(31)

So what's next Avaya?? Do you think we are still able to call at all with the next release??

Good luck to all who have support DT sites.

Arnoud

1. has been reported by Avaya some weeks ago
2. big deal

3. SCN between 3.0GA and 3.0DT is not supported. SCN between 3.0GA and 2.1 I suppose is also not supported. The only combination supported is 3.0DT and 2.1(31). So WHY would someone upgrade one of his systems to 3.0DT if this means NON DT systems can not be upgraded to 3.0 and must stay at 2.1 ???

Why would you use 3.0 if you are using DT's ? It seems there is no extra functionality except from the try and buy license which has no use because the new applications aren't supported ???

And why are they creating another build to support while they have trouble supporting the current builds ??

Not to mention how happy my customers will be if I tell them now DT is not supported anymore while a year ago it was a good thing to migrate from Index to IPO so they could keep their handsets.

AAAAAHHHHHHH

I do hope you are forwarding all this to Avaya
Customer preasure is the only thing that will make the marketing division wake up & smell the coffee.

BTW where can I download the V3.0 DT GA?

intrigant,

2. is a big deal for a lot of my legal (lawyers), outbound callcenters and headhunting business.

Q for outbound call centers etc. if you have a legitamate reason to call me why do you want to withhold you number?

But serioiusly option 2 can cause problems for many people.
In UK you can prefix a telephone number with 141 to withhold CLI. I do not know if this feature is available elsewhere or what code is needed

In Oz this code is 1831 before any number, perhaps you could enter this in the default shortcode for outbound dialing as a prefix

I said "big deal" as you can ask the provider to withold the number or: in many cases send a ilegal number with the call and the provider automaticly witholds your CLI.

I cannot think of any reason why Avaya has released this 'software' and why they developed this DT/DS strategy. Is it so hard to properly test the software? It is too much to ask to keep basic functionality up and running? Is it our job to upgrade systems and then be busy to correct errors, and think of workarounds etc etc?? I don't think so!

I agree with IPGuru and also hope that everybody sends their complaints via the proper channels to Avaya and perhaps then they realise that this is their biggest %&^%&^% so far.
We have a meeting with the product house within two weeks and I am very curious to hear their explanation…

Back to work now!

damn and we were about to connect to our new office and get Ds handsets, when we have DT series in our main office, i dont really know whats the best answer here if there is any at all with the rubbish bin getting pretty full of DT

Another bungle by a US company looking in but not out.

If you are sitting in the US and you don't understand what all the fuss is about for poor feature support for the DT how about this.

Version 3.1 is not going to support 44XX 4606 46012 and 4624 (I wonder why they wouldn't do this)

I blame George Bush

If you are woirried about filling the rubbish bin talk to your avaya rep, I hear thet thier currecnt reaction to feedback they are recieving on DT's is to offer an aggrssive by-back deal to peaople upgrading.

But keep the complaints to Avaya going!

All together now:

We Want DT's, We Want DT's!

The answer as to 'why?' is a simple one. Avaya simply want to sell you handsets that haven't been bastardised for use on the IPO (eg. the 54xx series).

I know using INDeX handsets on the IPO is a pain (pickup is the best example here). This is not just a marketting ploy by Avaya - but also a 'please the end user' one.

Remember, the good old Alchemy never had digital handsets originally - it was analog handsets only (coupled with phone manager).

And let's not forget the good old introduction of the licence key system. Imagine how many illegal copies of the application cd's for the NA got binned that day ;) .

Anyway, let's look at the introduction of an IPO only handset as a good thing. And think of all the opportunities we now hve to go and sell new handsets to old customers.

Mind you, there is always the other option - don't upgrade. Why would you want to upgrade to v3.0 in the first place? 2.1(27) (and later) seem stable enough - so keep using them.

If it's not broke - don't fix it.

And think of all the engineering time you are going to save by not having to arrange visits to all those sites :)

Old school Alchemy engineer - trying to keep up with the times :)

Well said MT, Raffles hasn't noticed that the 54XX is just a hobbled version of the, as he puts it, bastardized 24XX.

INDeX handsets a pain?
I know lots of users who think otherwise

Yes the pickup option on the display is not perfect because it is PickupGroup, but programming a coupke of dss buttons with PickupMembers is usualy enough to keep mots useres happy.
Call Park is the confusing one, but with carefull configuration even a Di-Hard Index fan can cope.

This decision is marketing lead, it means that Avaya do not have to Manufacture 2 seperate handset designs (24XX & 54XX handsets share a lot of common components & are basicaly the same item).

I suspect that many IPO useres will now not upgrade (at least with Avaya) and that many index useres will also decide not to upgrade through Avaya because of this decision.

All I want on my DT systems is the applications that come with version 3
Contact Store
Phone Manager V3

These are the main 2
You can forget the key phone features they are not suited to DT.
