I have some older release 1 i2004 phones that I am trying to register on my BCM 1000 on 3.6. When I start to configure the phone the first thing the display asks for is the static ip address of the phone. It doesn't ask for DHCP first. I have not seen this before.

I have set up a TFTP server on my network with the i2004 and i2002.rom files to allow firmware upgrades on these older phones. I never see the phone trying to access these files?

Any advice anyone might have would be greatly appreciated to help get these phones running.

Thanks

The firware for the phones are stored on the BCM you should not need a TFTP server, not seen these early phones but why don`t you set it up to your BCM with a static ip and the firmware should be upgraded with it...

Thanks for the info

If you have an i2004 set that has a firmware version lower than 3002B00, you will need to use a TFTP program to download the latest firmware.

i2004 sets that have an older version firmware will not support the automatic UFTP firmware downloads from a BCM 2.5 or higher.

Any other suggestion would be appreciated.

Hi bdalida

Have you got access to Nortel website to pick update?

Yes, maybe I'll do some more looking around on the pic site.

I have firmware updates I will see if I can find update procedure.

Hi bdalida

I forgot to ask can you get them to talk to the BCM with static IP address. If you can if you logon to the BCM you can right click the IP phone and select force firmware download.

Unfortunaley I have tried to put a static IP address in the phone. But it never registers with the BCM. I thought of that, but that phone will not show up in the list to do a force firmware download.

Hi BDalida

I found this info on the Nortel website might be worth a go.

It is a way to toggle between TCP and RUDP protocols
Mute, up arrow, down arrow, up arrow, down arrow, up arrow, mute,*,2
This will display the state of the RUDP layer (active or inactive).
Function Keys:
1. Toggle
2. Exit
If it is set as INACTIVE, press the TOGGLE button then EXIT.

Cool. Thank You. I will try that this morning, and let you know.
