Relationships in Frontend or Backend

I have a backend database with all the data tables and a front end with the forms etc. I have noticed I can create a relationship between tables in the table mdb or in the front end where the tables are linked. Is there a preferred place to create the relationships front end or back end?

Create them in the MDB that contains/stores the tables.
