When creating Relationships (in the Relationships screen) does it directly effect the performance Access? Or is it more of a visual tool?

I don't undertand, the way relationships are created in accesss dows nothing to the database but build the relationship.

By performance do you mean speed? I don't know if it affect the speed.

But it certainly affects referential integrity, which you would have to go through a _lot_ of trouble to enforce without using relationships.

Hi

As Jeremy says, a lot of work would be required to replicate referential integrity, cascade update and cascade delete, all of which you (can) get for free when specifying relationships.

Since Access (or Jet to be more precise) must do some work to check the system tables and enforce referential intergrity etc, I assume there must be some penalty in terms of speed when updating tables. However on balance since you would have to do all this work yourself anyway, the net effect is probably positive.

Hope this helps
