Hi,

I would like to know what is the relationship between upload and download speeds.

For example, lets assume I have a 4Mbps download connection, and I want to download a file from a website whose hosting company offers an upload speed of 1Mbps.

My questions are:
At what speed would be file be transfered?
Would there be any difference in transfer rate if the hosting company offered an upload speed of 512Kbps?

Thanking you in anticipation.

Thanks

You always transfer information at the speed of the slowest link. Assuming that the uplink of the website is the slowest link, that is the speed you will get. Either 1 meg or 512k.

If there is a slower link between you, or your protocol requires a great deal of turnaround, then that link or the distance and latency may limit you below the uplink.

So long as your end is not the slowest link, your speed does not matter for one transfer.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
