Rel6 Unified Messaging Question

The literature on the Partner Messaging R6 says that you need a MS exchange or SMTP servers only.
Question is: Do you have to have a server or email server of your own, OR can you use any SMTP server (such as yahoo)??? So the question is, could I just plug an internet connection into the LAN port and set my IP and Gateway to...say...Yahoo??

I guess I could just hook one up at home and try it... Anyone tried it yet?

You have to have a server or email server of your own because certain read/write permissions have to be set and an application has to be installed. However, you could just use

http://www.messenger

and view voice mail without retrieval off your LAN. Limited, but that's all you get without the email server.

I am just in the process of setting one of these (R6) up for unified messaging. Are there any email server programs you could recommend?
Mongo5150, with past setups with the R1, I have simply had the customer mark a "favorite" in the browser and labled it voicemail. It points to the ip of the voicemail. That works but isn't nearly as slick.

No, I couldn't recommend one, most folks use Exchange Server and it works well. But that's about all I've dealt with.
