The literature on the Partner Messaging R6 says that you need a MS exchange or SMTP servers only.
Question is: Do you have to have a server or email server of your own, OR can you use any SMTP server (such as yahoo)??? So the question is, could I just plug an internet connection into the LAN port and set my IP and Gateway to...say...Yahoo??

I guess I could just hook one up at home and try it... Anyone tried it yet?

You have to have a server or email server of your own because certain read/write permissions have to be set and an application has to be installed. However, you could just use and view voice mail without retrieval off your LAN. Limited, but that's all you get without the email server.

Hi 392,
I am just in the process of setting one of these (R6) up for unified messaging. Are there any email server programs you could recommend?
Mongo5150, with past setups with the R1, I have simply had the customer mark a "favorite" in the browser and labled it voicemail. It points to the ip of the voicemail. That works but isn't nearly as slick.

No, I couldn't recommend one, most folks use Exchange Server and it works well. But that's about all I've dealt with.
