So, I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong here. Experimenting with vmserver and taking snapshots of working vm's. Snapshots reapply just fine, but for some reason I have to log in locally to the vm, remove it from the domain, and rejoin the domain before I can log in to the domain again.

As soon as the snapshot is restored and I try to login I get, "The domain is not available......."

Do I need to reset the active directory server object when I do a restore or move to a new physical machine?

The issue is the Machine account password. You take a snap and the your VM goes on it merry way for a while. At some point the machine account password that is used to auth the computer object is changed. You then revert your snap and it comes up and says "hey it me" to the AD server(s). The AD servers of course do not recognize the password being sent by the reverted version of the VM.

The automatic password updating can be changed see
