Hi,

I am having a problem with unwanted advertising mail. I am sure a lot of you are. I have made a list in my /etc/mail/access file rejecting the mail. I know what I have done is correct because I have tested it with my graduate school email account. When I add a line to the access file, I hash it, by going "makemap hash /etc/mail/access < /etc/mail/access" The problem is that these companies are getting around it. They must be sending the email from another ip address and forging the send ip address. The problem is with unwanted advertisements. Any idea how I can trace where the messages are coming from or figure out what I am doing wrong.

Thanks,

I know what you mean. I've almost blocked out the whole world and the still find a way. I was just looking ant my README.cf file and came across this:

There is also a ``Realtime Blackhole List'' run by the MAPS project
at This is a database maintained in DNS of
spammers. To use this database, use

FEATURE(`dnsbl')

This will cause sendmail to reject mail from any site in the
Realtime Blackhole List database. This default DNS blacklist,
blackholes.mail-abuse.org, is a service offered by the Mail Abuse
Prevention System (MAPS). As of July 31, 2001, MAPS is a subscription
service, so using that network address won't work if you haven't
subscribed. Contact MAPS to subscribe (
I haven't tried it yet but maybe it's worth looking into.
