Hi!

I bought a new computer without disc drive. The computer box does not have cables or slots for disc drive installation. Just HDs and CDs.
How to reinstall FoxPro 2.0 from original Microsoft 720Kb disquetes in the new computer? (The old computer crashed and I need some programs continue to be running in MS-DOS).

Thank you!

Yes Dave, I attached the old hard drive (as a secondary hard drive) to the new computer and copied the entire \FOXPRO2 folder to drive C in the new computer and now I am able to use FoxPro2.
I did not know this was possible. I had thought that in every new computer I upgrade I had to reinstall FoxPro DOS from installation diskettes.
Thank you

You got VERY lucky.

When you indicated that The old computer crashed that is most often an indication that the Hard Drive went BAD.
If so you would not have been able to copy the Foxpro2 directory over to the new computer

With that in mind, I'd suggest creating a GOOD and FREQUENT backup plan now - writing to some OTHER device(s).

Good Luck,

Glad you to hear you were able to attach the old drive. Like jrbbldr pointed out, you did indeed get lucky.
For those old versions, the disks did require an install initially. But once the install was done, the installed directory could be copied just fine. That has saved me many times.

As noted above, a COMPLETE and FREQUENT backup on a DIFFERENT device is the only way to ensure data recovery should your computer fail again.

I do a complete backup of my FP2.6 files twice a week to a different server OFFSITE. So far I have five years of backups offsite and have never needed to use them. However, SOONER or LATER, something will happen where I will lose all access to files on my computer. When that happens, I will recover the latest backup and will have lost only two days (at most) worth of program and data changes.

Yes, I do backup my data and programs I write every day, offsite also.
But for years I had thought that if I needed to reinstall FoxPro 2.0 in another computer (just in case the computer I was using crashed) I would have to use the 3 1/2" installation diskettes in another computer! I did not know I could just make a copy of the folder of previously installed FoxPro to another computer.
Thanks for all.
