reinstalled win982nd-Printer not working

I reinstalled win982nd 4.10.2222 A from the disk i got with my new computer on a second computer for my kids. Its a compaq desktop pro, 133, 32 ram, 2.5gig, 56k. It had windows 98 on it when it was bought and had been refubish from manufactor. this printer has run on it and had no problems installing the 1st time. It had been running but only 30 min or so, then errors and crash. it would work again after a "rest".
I reinstalled once and the printer port was missing. i wiped clean and reinstalled again. When i tried to install the printer windows detected and installed a ECP mode port,with error(05) which conflicts with the sound card at interupt request at 07 and com port 3 at 05 the only 2 choices i have. The Canon BJ2000 wanted a lpt port choice and had a box w/ an arrow that had no choices, the next page said can not communicate and will not install. Since then i have deleted ECP to redetect always wants to add a ECP version. I changed driver in device mang to standard printer port, as soon as it was restarted wanted to add ECP. I added a standard port from add hardwear, It has error(24) can not detect. I tried detect it and it found modem and wanted to add ECP. I can not get into the bios from start up and couldn't even make it start in safe mode with F8.
Why is this windows doing this? How can i get to the bios and change/disable ECP mode? Is there a defect in my disk?

never mind i fixed it. ifound the soundcard that had an error of (code io) not properly installed or missing drivers. thinks it is not there no driver worked for it. i removed it and the ecp version was no longer conflicting i but still ! i removed it and restarted . win readded ecp version but printer loaded fine. in device mag there is no port listed only com3 but it works and has sound all is well.
