If anyone has experianced the following scenario, I would be grateful if you could tell me how you went about solving it.

A customer has 1 dc and 10 clients in a domain. The server was destroyed by fire, but all the clients survived unscathed. There is no backup of the system state but a backup of company documents is available. So the customer buys a new server and installs 2003 server. After restoring the documents to the new server, recreating user/computer accounts and file permissions and naming the new dc the same as the old one, what else is needed to be done? Will clients lose settings when I join their machines to the the new dc? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

What you have done is a new (similar setup resembling the old) setup. You have to do all the settings again for the users.

You will also need to copy thier old user profiles to their new one once they join the new domain

And you should invite them to purchase a fire proof media safe to store the backups and ASR media.

You could use a utility called the user profile wizard. It essentially migrates your users profile to the new domain without them losing any settings.

I use this on any small network when migrating to a new domain..

Many thanks to you all for all your advice and taking the time to help me.
