Initially my computer had Win Me. Arounnd 4 months ago, somehow it crashed, and I installed Win 2000. Prob is probably Win2000 was installed in some other domain (or sector), and WinMe is still present in the computer other than Win2000. Everytime during Restart it asks me whether I should Open Win Me or Win2000. But it does not eventually open in Win Me. Only Win 2000 is functional. But the Win Me is taking up almost half disk space. Can I delete it someway, or reinstall win2000 so that Win Me is completely out, and only win 2000 is present? I have back ups of my files, and it doesn't matter if some files are lost in doing so.
thanks in advance

If you're happy wiping everything, then its easy:-

Boot from 2k install CD (need to set bios to boot from CD first), choose install 2k (no repair options). It should then find existing install and offer repair - don't, Esc out to do new install. When it asks where to install, use the partitioning tools (highlight, hit D key and answer prompts correctly) to remove existing partition(s). Then create a new single partition for 2k. Format fat32 or ntfs as required - and install as normal.

Note: 2k has habit of hanging on to its original boot.ini even when you wipe drive. So, after 2k installed, you can edit boot.ini (hidden, system, read only file in root of C:) to look like this:-

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

Or, before booting win2k install CD, boot from ME/9x boot floppy and use fdisk to remove all partitions (so you won't need to do that during 2k install).

Agreed, clean install is the way to go, but if that makes you nervous, boot to 2000, go to Windows Explorer, delete everything in the ME Partition, and just start storing files there. Don't know if this is what you really want though.
