I recently had problems with the blaster virus. Even after I got rid of it Windows was acting very strange. i decided to reinstal XP pro and during installation I got the following message:

Setup had problems registering the following OLE controls DLL
C:\Windows\system32\initpki.dll

Signature for Windows XP is invalid. The error code is 426"

Now whenit boots it goes to the setup screen but it won't setup. I either need to boot with what is on the HD or finish the reinstall.

Any help would be appreciated.

Brian

Did you use the correct XP CD to reinstall?

Is your RAM and CPU serviceable?

What problems besides MsBlaster were you having? Could they be hardware related?

See if any of these point you in the right direction.

Do you have access to any of the Setup Error logs in the Windows Folder, they may contain extra information?

You might have to gain access via Recovery Console.

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console for Windows XP (Q307654)

You might be able to use the Recovery Console to replace the Boot.ini file with Boot.bak or get a Boot.ini file that doesn't have XP Setup as the Default Operating System. This will the stop the Boot-Setup loop. (These are System and Hidden files).
