When I start Palm Desktop, I have to cancel on updating software 12 times before the Palm Desktop software actually comes up.
Palm Desktop 4.1.2 running on Windows XP Pro. When I start the Palm Desktop software I get an error message saying that it needs to update software, gives me a dialog box asking for the .msi file, and shows a display box which is supposed to give the path to the directory where the software was installed from. Instead it shows the number '1'. I downloaded the newest version of Palm Desktop for my Palm VIIx (4.1.4). When I unzipped it, I got a setup file, no .msi file. I tried to uninstall Palm Desktop from the control panel add/remove programs - it wouldn't let me, saying it needed to access the software .msi file before it would uninstall. (can we talk about going in circles here?) How do I go forward so I can fix this? Is there someplace I can get a copy of 4.1.2 that I can extract to a .msi installer?

This is not identical to the problem I had, but the solution may still apply. Uninstall the current installed version of the software. Now re-install the DeskTop software BUT specify a directory other than the default directory for the software to be installed. That cleared up the problems I had (Palm DeskTop would crash whenever I tried anything, like look at a memo).

Hoping this helps.
