I rebuilt my server this weekend and lost my Arc databases (when I was copying them over to the network to a backup machine there was an error and they didn't copy). I need to restore a few files from the BU tape from last friday (a user deleted one of his personal folders) - what would be the easiest way to restore the database so I can use Friday's BU to get the folder back? Since I did a fresh install of W2ks, I'm starting a new BU job of the server so I just need to retreive these few old files.

Did you backup ARCserve's database in your jobs ?? ( in the job options you can choose whether or not to backup the database on a separate session ). If so you can easily retrive the database by using the 'recover database' function ( under utilities ) ARCserve will scan the media and restore the seperate database session if it can find this session ( this works automatically ). If you cannot recover your database this way you can use the 'merge' option ( under utilities ), that will put the file-and- folder information of the tape that is in the drive back into the database. After merging the media you can use the restore by session option to restore by file

hope this helps

Recovering the DB from the tape worked and it was a success merging the tape database into my current backup routine. THANKS Cyklops, I was so burnt out from work tis past weekend that I was not thinking straight, now I'm back on track.
