If i reload IE5.5, will it overwrite corrupted files, or just replace the whole program?

I'd delete it first, but that's a greyed-out option, i can only run 'repair' on it ...
I'm thinking to replace it because some graphics are downloading improperly - some with red X's, others with a little piece of the "IE cannot open this page..." message in the block where the graphic should pop up, and i've tried lots of re-settings ...

I would LOVE some advice/suggestions on these issues, esp the idea that reloading IE may be a solution and tricks or tips about it.
thx

Why do you keep reposting the same thing 3 times?
You already had this question in thread608-564376 and
thread615-564378.
Please do not clutter the site, you will not get any different answers just because you make the same post over and over.
The answers were given in the other threads.
You don't reply to those anymore, but instead make a new one. That does not make any sense!

Thank you for referring me to those threads.

I did not think i was as clear in those threads about my source problem, namely my inability to delete IE by usual methods. Neither was the question of over-writing of files during re-installation covered.

So this was a somewhat different question.

I must say you seem quite hostile and irritable toward me, and i find your attitude impatient and distasteful; I just want some help.

Are you some kind of webmaster or overseer or threadminder for tek-tips? Or just a participant with an opinion ...

very truly yours,

And your comment that i don't respond to replies sppears to be overstated - i had many responses to people with useful suggestions.

Sorry if you take it personal.

We, the members (any member), try to keep it clean and easy to oversee for everyone.
The members oversee the forums and can make remarks, just like I did. Any member can also Red Flag a post that is found to be inapropriate, rude, off-topic, or of any 'not-so-nice' subject if that would be the case.
All I am saying is that you started this question with a double post, and BEFORE answerring to the above mentioned thread, you posted this one, same question, just phrased differently.
Consider this for a second: If you are another person looking for help on IE 5.5 and find all kinds of threads, from which 3 are the same, which one will it be? You don't know, you will need to read them all, sometimes to find out not one of them was ever concluded properly.
That is what we try to avoid and guide.

I am "impatient and distasteful" ?
I am not he one reposting to get answers that suit me. You are beinf impatient to get answers, but you had you answers, it just sounds as if you do not want to accept them. Some situations cannot be solved without taking a step back, that is just the way it is.

So, if in your opinion a question goes unanswerred or is not answerred incomplete, add that to THAT thread, so anyone can follow what has been done and where there is still an issue. Posting a new one will just get you all the same answers again.
See the point?
That is not personal against you, it just happens you were the one posting it 3 times.
Now what is so distasteful about pointing that out?

Marc

Mikk - remember that duplicate posts are a genuine reason for redflagging a thread. Keeping the question to a single thread helps prevent duplicating answers and allows all participants to see the full extent of the contributions. As an example, I do not use forum615, so this instance of your question (and all it's answers) were lost to me until marcs41 referenced it. The question you asked in this thread isn't substantially different from your original question, in which case best practice is to add the question into the original thread you started.

Regards, Marc.

So to clarify your problem -

"some graphics are downloading improperly - some with red X's, others with a little piece of the "IE cannot open this page..." message in the block where the graphic should pop up"

I'm assuming you're using Win XP ("I'd delete it first, but i can only run 'repair'")

Repair will normally reload a number of relevant files.
If these files exist on your machine already (be they corrupted or no) they will be over-written. To answer your prior question about patches, any patches will have to be reapplied.

The question of graphical issues with IE has been addressed previously - a number of solutions appear in thread608-199497 : iexplorer 6.0 displays no gifs. Note - the solutions suggested are generic - they're not specific to IE6.

<marc> i wonder what will happen if i press this...[pc][ul][li]please give feedback on what works / what doesn't[/li][li]need some help? how to get a better answer: faq581-3339[/li][/ul]

Gentlemen ~ I see my behavior dirrently now and understand that my wish to multi-post things is a mistake.

It was not so much impatience that pushed me as it was the idea that I thought i was speaking to different audiences but i was mistaken -

i apologize and thank you for clarifying my error.

By the way, i am running Win98 ist edition and IE OLEXP both with 5.5 SP2, and both with with all available patches, data which i should have said more clearly.

I don't understand why Add/Remove has "Restore original Windows configuration" greyed out
so that i only have "repair" and "Add a component" as options - even after i re-installed IE.
I will re-check Marc's threads and Monarth's thread and see what they offer.

Thank you for helping me see the etiquette.

sincerely,
