Problems with IE 5.5 SP2 have me thinking about reinstalling it --
Three questions:
1) Am i better of running the original install program which i still have saved?
.... Or better off going to Add/Remove programs?

2) will the patches survive an install/reinstall?

3) Are there codes or switches i can use on the install .exe to save the patches?

...are there any other problems i should know about and get suggestions about?

Many thanks

A re-install puts the original files ther, so you must do an update agin.
You might as well go for IE 6?

Have you tried a Repair in Add/Remove Programs?

Jim

Jim,

even a repair will replace corrupt file with the originals, so if it does repair, an update is needed again.
Personally, I don't see why that would be a problem.
By the time this post was made, replied to and read, that re-install and updates would have been done several times already.

thx, ANFPS26, I TRIED THAT REPAIR PROGRAM AND IT DIDN'T SEEM TO HELP

i think i hate IE6, Marc, and i haven't even tried it - but it sure gets a lot of bad word-of-mouth ...

"... the reinstall and updates would have been done ..."

that's my main question -
must i download and reinstall the updates?

Or is there a switch i can include on the install (for example, like *.exe /P [for patch?] ) or something to keep them in place?

You don't want to get it.
If you re-install, anyway you want, you WILL need to re-apply the patches, there is no 2 ways about it.
And there is nothing wrong with IE 6, but if you prefer 5.5 that is fine too. Thing is, you need the updates and patches, one way or the other, but you will need less for IE 6.

thx marc -- glad to hear a clear answer.
Is there any required routine for correctly uninstalling IE5.5 1st? (I think i have a copy somewhere... i'll look)

no special routine, can't check, don't have it anymore.
Just remove in from Add/Remove

thx ANFPS26
