Hi,

I have had huge problems with database. I found 331 chk files, and harddisk was also full. No backups could be done.

I run prune, and after that started all db fix tools. Now Keybuild has taken about 48h, should I still wait or clear a database? Keybuild is currently prosessing item=38717300 of file astpsdat.000, file is almost 2gb. I'm afraid that this will take too much time because also file astpsdat.001 is also over 1Gb size... (total database folder 5.5gb.

I should be able to restore a file from 2week old backup at this week. If I make a initialization will that be possible, what will I lost? We currently have about 200 tapes in library, backing up a 500Gb per backup. I have no idea what tape includes those files (thanks to previous backup person...)

Thanks to everyone. You / tek-tips has been a great help! I still have a dream I could make this work... I'm still a beginner with arc, so all tips are welcome :)

Hi
If you initialize the database then you need to Merge any tape you want to restore from before trying to restore by file/folder.
If you have many problem with your database better is to initialize it, also try to keep Pruning period Max to one month don't keep it log.

run the tools on a bi-weekly basis to keep it quiet,

also, keep your eye out for an asterisk which appears next to your jobs in the job manager, this indicates that the database is not being updated properly. This is worst if left for a few days as it will just suck your hard disk space as you've seen,

i did setup a disk monitor in windows to send a warning when low.

hope this helps
