Regwiz error

While installing Crystal Reports v8.5 as an upgrade to version 8, I get a regwiz error at the very end of the registration process. Then the computer locks up. I have successfully installed and registered on another machine so the problem seems to be local. Am I correct in assuming that Crystal Reports uses the Windows program regwiz, or the information contained therein, as part of its registration process? And does anybody have a clue as to how to avoid this error (the usual "program has comitted an illegal action...")? Incidently, if I click "Register Later" the same thing happens.
