Hi all,

Strange problem, wondered if anyone had seen it.

We have an XP Pro machine that occasionally runs very slowly. When looking at the task manager, there are many copies of Regsvr32.exe running on the system. Normally there wouldnt be any. The processor runs at 100% when this happens.

XP is fully patched and is running Mcafee virusscan 8.0i patch 11 (Enterprise edition).

I have updated Regsvr32.exe from the previous version 4.x (to version 5.x) to see whether it makes a difference. In the meantime, I wondered if anyone could shed some light on the problem.

Cheers

Ax

Are there any programs, scripts, or scheduled tasks that are set to run regsvr32?

It might be an idea to try running from Safe Mode, or use another user in Normal Mode, to see if you still have the problem?

If it is only a recent problem you could look at using System Restore.
