I have a WinXP Pro system with lots of programs in place, many obtained from hours of online update. I want to install a dual boot with Win98, but after I install Win98 I have to reinstall WinXP, according to Microsoft knowledge base.

I hate to have to reinstall all my programs under WinXP. Can I avoid having to do so by doing the following;

- backup WinXP registry
- install Win98 in its own partition, first 1 Gb of HD
(use PartitionMagic to move WinXP partition a bit)
- reinstall WinXP
- restore WinXP registry from backup?

I would appreciate any suggestion.
